Scammers Target Williamson County School Boosters

FRANKLIN, TN — A Texas-based company is trying to scam Williamson County businesses by playing on their sense of school spirit, the school district says.

Prime Time Advertising is contacting local businesses, purporting to collect sponsorships for Franklin High School’s winter sports teams, but the company has no affiliation with Williamson County Schools and their products cannot be distributed at the schools.

WCS says the company is calling, offering to put a company’s logo on promotional products, which they claim help "support" the school, but the school gets no money from the promotion.

“This company is not affiliated with Williamson County Schools,” said WCS Deputy Superintendent Jason Golden. “Out of town businesses typically do not sell products on behalf of our schools or school district. If you purchase these products for our schools, they will not be distributed. We do not accept unsolicited ‘gifts’ of spirit wear such as sponsored footballs, t-shirts, banners, posters, etc. These companies are violating Tennessee school fundraiser laws.”

The Office of the Attorney General would like to hear from any businesses who may have done business with this company. They should contact State of Tennessee Investigator Rich Riddle at 615-741-8735 or rich.riddle@ag.tn.gov.

If anyone has any questions regarding a fundraiser for a particular school, they should call the school’s principal, which is well aware of all the ongoing fundraisers.
